What Are They Saying

What did you say

People who know me, know that I am a person who loves the meaning of words, the words of a poem or a quote the lyrics to a meaningful song, words can be so powerful they change the world. Like “I have a Dream” by Martin Luther King, or “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” from John F. Kennedy or “Yes we can” by President Obama.

Here are some of my favorite quotes and the meaning I took from them:

“Don’t let people pull you into their storm, pull them into your peace” ,we all know someone who is filled with drama, negativity all masked by self doubt and a low self-esteem. The easiest way to handle these people is to not even deal with them. However, this sometimes is not the case, especially if it is a loved one, boss or close friend. In those cases you have to stay true to yourself, not get sucked into their stuff and by example, action and deeds pull them into your world, your peace.

“DRINK, SWEAR, LIE” – I often use these words as a euphemism to punctuate a point I am making as it relates to coaching people. I tell them that I will help them DRINK from the fountain of youth and knowledge, that I want them to swear to do the best they can to become the best version of themselves and to LIE awake at night only to thank God and to release their worries.

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch”. This quote resonates with me at my core because I am one who believes like Martin Luther King said, “injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere” so we as humans must stand up for what is right, for other people whenever we see it. Like mama always said “right is right and wrong is wrong”.

Sometimes, as God fearing people, especially Christians, we believe that life is not ever supposed to be tough. But one of my favorite quotes that speak to that is “God never said it would be easy, but he did say he would be our refuge in the midst of a storm” that reassurance is what I lean on when times are tough.

“Show me your friends and I will show you you your future” is a quote that I have used when talking with young kids either who I have coached or whose parents have asked me to “talk” to their kids. What is really being said with this quote is for the person to check who their friends are. What’s great about this quote is that it applies to all ages and all relationships. If a co-worker, a relative or a significant person who you are in a relationship with is not adding some value or supporting you then your future will be affected by that relationship.

“I am open and ready to attract abundance into my life” is a saying that I have posted in front of me on my dream board. To be open and ready infers actively thinking a certain way which is required to attract either positive or negative things in our lives. To attract abundance you have to be thinking, planning an expecting good things.
