Personal Ownership

“Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.”

― Anne Frank

You are 100 percent responsible for every outcome in your life.  It is a result of What You Did. What you Did Not Do…and how you respond to what happens to you.

In the crazy world of youth sports, especially girls’ softball, parents have a hard time allowing little Sally to experience this.  Sally is not playing because of the coach, Sally is being pushed to number 2 on the depth chart and it is the coach’s fault, Sally does not bat in the lineup, it is the coach’s fault.  How do parents prepare their kids for graduating from childhood to adulthood where they have to take full responsibility for their life if they step in when they don’t get what the parent wants?

I don’t think parents do it on purpose, they really feel like they should be calling the coach to ask why their kid is not getting something, instead of telling their kid to keep working.

Something I tried to instill in my kids was on Grace, Justice, and Mercy, even if I didn’t always use these words.

Grace is when we get what we don’t deserve!

Justice is when we get what we deserve!

Mercy is when we don’t get what we deserve!
