Make Life Simple

I received the following from my daily “quotes to inspire” email I read every morning:

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”  ~Confucius

Why can’t people just look at life with their eyes wide open and see how amazing and breathtaking it is? Life has put before us the wonders of this world and people still don’t get it. They are too busy wasting the time that has been given to them for being irritable and crabby. They never give it a thought that on a moment’s notice, it could be over. There are so many places to explore, so many things to see. It doesn’t ever get boring and you can never run out of things to do. Enjoy what is handed to you. You will never regret it. Do you see your life being simple or do you complain that it’s not easy?

It reminds me of Lauryn Hills line in her song Ex Factor, “Things can be so simple, but you would rather make it hard”. So here is the question, are there things you are doing that you make harder than it should be?

Sometimes, we do this without even realizing it.  We make choices that causes us and the people around us, to have trouble more than it should.  Most of the time this belief is self-induced.  When I am working on goal setting with a client, we discuss how limiting beliefs can cause someone to fall short of their goals and most of the time it is due to our own mindset.

For example, I ask the question if you are home alone and in the middle of the night you hear what sounds like a burglar trying to get in your back door, you are going to have a mental and physiological response and even after you realize it was your cat, it does not change what you believed or how you felt in that moment.

The same exists for us when we think about the quote by Confucius or Lauryn Hills line in her song.

We can choose to make life simple or we can make it hard.
