I have to admit that after seeing the movie “War Room” my prayer life was lacking by comparison. Do not get me wrong, I pray daily, and I have several conversations a day with God; my wife and I even have a routine that before either one of us leave the house for the first time we pray together. Even if I am just running to the store, I have to wake her up for us to pray and if one of us is out of town then we call and pray over the phone to start our day. Nevertheless, in comparison to the movie my prayer life was not up to par.
Since the movie, I have been reading the bible and like anything that you read a few times, the words have a different meaning. For example, Isaiah 33:2 is a petition from us to God “Lord be gracious to us: we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress”. I have added this scripture to my prayer life, asking God to be gracious to my family.
Another scripture that I have re-discovered that I have added to my prayer life, specifically for my daughters is Joshua 1:5 – 6, which states, “no one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. I will never leave nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous”. Just being able to add scriptures like these have definitely added to my prayer life and has made my relationship with God even stronger.
James 5:16 “the intense prayer of the righteous is very powerful”.
So remember God wants us to depend on him, he wants us to be in constant conversation with him because like he said in John 10:10, he came that we might have life, and to have it more abundantly.
