The San Francisco 49ers announced today that troubled star Aldon Smith has been activated fie weeks after entering a rehab facilities for his recent drunk driving arrest. Many sports writers have been expressing whether or not this is the right thing for Smith or are the 49ers just looking out for the team while ignoring what is best for the player. So the question that comes up is what responsibility do teams and coaches have for the overall well-being of their players? I believe that coaches do have a responsibility for their players off the field. Coaches should use every resource available including assessments, life coaching to explain assessments and even a therapist, if it will help players. After all if the players are in great shape off the field then coaches are guaranteed to get the best results from their players on the field.
